_ Hi - My name is Josie Richardson, and I was accepted in the People-to-People Student Ambassador Class of 2012. President Dwight D Eisenhower was the founder of People-to-People. As a Student Ambassador, I have the unique opportunity to represent the United States and reach out to the world.
If I’m successful in raising the necessary funds, I will be able to study abroad in the Heart of Europe. I will be traveling to Austria, France, Switzerland, and Italy July 6, 2012 – July 25, 2012. This experience will also allow me to earn High School credits.
I am 15-years-old, and I am a sophomore at Farmville Central High School. I have a passion for learning about new cultures, discovering new places, and developing new friendships and relationships. I have always been very active in school and other activities. In Elementary School, I played the violin and competed in Gymnastics. In Middle School I played the trombone and baritone. I have played volleyball for 6-years which included playing on the Jr. Varsity Volleyball team in which I was one of the captains. I have participated in travel volleyball team for 2-years. I am a current member of the Coast Plains Volleyball Club and our team name is "The Cobras." I have developed a passion for math and science. At this time in my life, I am very interested in studying criminology.
When I am not travelling for volleyball, I assist my Mom who is the primary caregiver for my Grandmother. My Grandmother was injured in a car accident in 2004 which left her partially paralyzed. She later had a stroke which further incapacitated her ability to walk again. I am able to assist by checking her sugar levels (due to her diabetes), checking her blood pressure, assisting with administering her medications, and assisting with grooming (brushing her teeth and washing her face). I’m named after my Grandmother, who (before her accident) really knew how to spoil me. I will do anything to help her because I love her so much.
I am very excited in studying abroad and travelling to see the world in hope that this experience will help me to better understand how diversity builds stronger communities and improves world peace and productivity. I am writing you to ask for any financial assistance that you could provide to help me to begin this amazing journey. My goal is to raise $10,000.00. Any financial assistance would be greatly appreciated to assist to pay the required tuition. I have a special bank account established with Branch Bank and Trust Company (BB&T). All tax deductible contributions can be made to Josie Richardson by Direct Deposit (account 053101121: 0005200209852); or mail to: 1295 Windham Rd., Greenville, NC 27834.
I thank you, in advance, for assisting in making my dreams come true.
Sincerely,
Josie Richardson
